Lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland formed Coldplay in 1996 while attending University College London. The British band’s style has been described as alternative rock or occasionally as post-Britpop. They released their debut album in 2000 and were met with nearly instant success. Since that time, Coldplay has released five studio albums, three live albums, a greatest hits compilation and a remixes album. The band continues to score hits both in the United Kingdom as well as around the world.
